Norman Withers
Norman (Norm) has a long history of serving the Christchurch and Canterbury communities.
From successfully initiating a Law and Order referendum, being on the Christchurch City Council for nine years from 2001, the last three as Deputy Mayor, Norm continues to serve.
Following his retirement, he became a self-appointed advocate aiding the elderly and sick with their earthquake issues for nearly six years, making no charge for his services and handling over eighty cases. He was a trustee of Canterbury West Coast Sports Trust for nine years and a board member of Christchurch/Canterbury Tourism.
He has represented Canterbury at cricket and soccer, managed New Zealand boxing teams and spent thirty-nine years as a boxing judge.
Since 1984 Norm has been, and still is, voluntarily involved in raising funds for promising young sportspeople and teams, along with sick children and various charities.
In 2009 he received the MNZM award from the Governor General honouring his services to the Community and Sport.
In addition to being a trustee of the Christchurch Casinos Charitable Community Trust, Norm is Currently a trustee of Riccarton Park Racecourse.
