Blackjack is the most popular game in casinos around the world because of its simplicity, sociable
atmosphere and challenge. The following information refers to standard Blackjack. Christchurch
Casino also offers ‘Blackjack Plus’. Blackjack Plus has small variations on the standard play, so be
sure to ask about these differences.

The object of the game is to beat the Dealer’s total by drawing cards that equal 21 or are as close to 21
as possible without exceeding it.

At Christchurch Casino Blackjack is played with four to six decks of cards that are dealt from a container
called a ‘Shoe’.

To get started, place any cash on the table and the Dealer will exchange it for gaming chips. Players
commence the game by placing a wager in one of the betting areas marked on the Blackjack table.
These are generally referred to as ‘Boxes’. The Dealer will call “no more bets” and then begin to deal
by drawing cards from the shoe.

The Dealer deals one card face up to each box containing a wager and then deals a card to him/herself.
A second card is then dealt to each of the boxes. Players now have the option of drawing another card,
doubling, splitting or standing. Jacks, Queens and Kings count as 10. Aces count as either 1 or 11. Other
cards are their face value. If you receive an Ace and a 10 count card (or picture card) as your first two cards
dealt, you have Blackjack and you will be paid 3 to 2. If the Dealer gets a Blackjack as well, it is then a
stand-off and you neither win nor lose and keep the amount you bet.

If you draw additional cards and get more than 21 (bust) or get less than the Dealer, then the Dealer wins.
If you have a higher total than the Dealer, or if the Dealer’s total exceeds 21 (bust) then you win.

Up to three people may bet together on any one playing box at a time subject to the rules. So even if the
table looks busy you are also welcome to participate.

HAND SIGNALS

When playing you are required to physically indicate your decisions. If you require another card, simply
tap the table behind your box. If you want to stand and don’t require more cards, signal by moving your
hand in a horizontal cut off motion across the table. You may ‘stand’ on 12 or more.

DOUBLING DOWN

You may double down your initial bet on any two card total, but an Ace may not be included. When
doubling down, the additional wager must be at least the table increment and no more than the
original wager. You will then be dealt only one more card.

SPLITTING

Another option allows you to split cards of the same value. If you select this option, you must duplicate
your initial wager. The Dealer will place a second card on your first hand. If this is a card of the same
value you may split one more time. Each hand will be completed in order. When splitting Aces, you
may split only once with each Ace receiving one card only. If you get a 10 value card on a split Ace
it does not count as a Blackjack and will only be paid even money if it wins.

ORIGINAL BET

If you have chosen the option to split or double down your hand and the Dealer draws Blackjack, you
will only lose your original stake. All other additional wagers will be returned to you.

INSURANCE

If the Dealer’s first card is an Ace, you may make a separate bet on the insurance line. You will win if
a 10 count card is drawn to the Dealer’s Ace, but lose if any other card is drawn by the Dealer. A
winning insurance bet pays 2 to 1. If you have Blackjack when the Dealer’s first card is an Ace, you
may ask for even money immediately and take no further part in the hand.

ANY PAIRS

Any Pairs is an optional wager which must be made in conjunction with a Blackjack wager. The player
may place an Any Pairs bet on their own box or any other box which has a wager. Each box has a
designated Any Pairs wagering area. The player will win on ‘Any Pairs’ if the first two cards on the box
have the same face value regardless of suit. A winning Any Pairs wager pays 11 to 1.
