CEO UPDATE: as of 20th May
On Friday 15th May 2020, we made the decision to limit access to the Casino to Gold, Platinum and Black card members only. With our approach to level 2 being a considered one and wanting to ensure that we met all our obligations for social distancing and health & safety requirements in a Covid-19 world, part of that limiting queues, this decision was integral to that. The approach has been that the last six days have been a soft opening for us as we come to terms with the implications of level 2 and how we operate.
Learnings have now been made and these have given us the confidence to take us to the next stage of level 2 operating and open up visitation to all members. This will be effective from 1200 (midday) Wednesday 20th May 2020.
Should you wish to bring a guest you are welcome to do so, all visitors to the Casino are still required to be a member of our Players Club. First time guests can sign up to the Players Club on arrival, and photo ID is required. Should anyone wish to not receive marketing material, they are free to opt out at any time at our Players Club desk.
Our open hours are as below and we will continue to review these regularly;
- Monday 1200- 2300 (12pm – 11pm)
- Tuesday 1200- 2300 (12pm – 11pm
- Wednesday 1200- 2300 (12pm – 11pm)
- Thursday 1200- 2300 (12pm – 11pm)
- Friday 1200- 0200 (12pm – 2am)
- Saturday 1200 to 0200 (12pm – 2am)
- Sunday 1200 to 2300 (12pm – 11pm)
It has certainly been an uncertain period and we hope this next step of how we operate removes some of that uncertainty for us all.
For those of you that took the time to share your views on the restrictions imposed based on our loyalty tiers thank you, it was great to see the passion some of you have for Christchurch Casino.
I have included some information below to help with your visit.
SOME INFORMATION TO HELP WITH YOUR VISIT
We don’t provide a coat/bag check through this period.
I am a non-member can I come along and sign up to gain entry?
Yes everyone needs to sign up to be a member. You can sign up in the lobby before going upstairs to the Casino, photo ID is required.
If I sign up I don’t want to receive any emails or marketing information about the Casino
That’s fine- at all times any customer can opt out of any communication from the Casino. This includes all marketing communications.
Please tell us at the time of sign up that you don’t wish to receive any communications. If you are already a member then ask a Players Club staff member to opt you out of marketing.
Access to the Casino/ Car parking
No Vehicle access to the Casino from Victoria Street
The Victoria Street scape project has commenced, which means that Victoria Street between Kilmore and Peterborough streets is one way. The ability to pull up outside Casino entrance isn’t available at the moment. This also means the parking under the Casino main building is closed.
Peterborough Street Carpark
Due to the ongoing work on the Victoria Street project, you can only access the Peterborough Street Carpark entrance from Durham Street or from Salisbury Street. This carpark will be free for members.
Food and Beverage at the Casino
Unfortunately under level 2 restrictions buffets aren’t an option. So the Grand Café is no longer open. We have great dining options available in our Monza Sports Bar menu and Valley Bar menu.
Chi is also closed, however some of the best dishes are on our “Wok Kitchen menu” available from Monza bar.
All our F&B service areas will serve seated customers only. Our self-service coffee machines are available and our friendly team can also bring you a drink at your machine or table if you request one.
Can I make a reservation to your dining areas?
No we don’t take reservations for our current food areas. Please go to the Monza bar. Check here for our great menu.
CEO UPDATE: as of 15th May
These are unprecedented times, as we work through our initial opening period we currently have a venue maximum of 100 customers on site at a given time.
With that in mind, effective from midday Saturday 16 May 2020 until further notice we will be restricting access into the Casino to Silver, Gold, Platinum and Black card members only. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause.
Our current hours are as follows:
SUNDAY – THURSDAY: 12:00PM – 11:00PM
FRIDAY – SATURDAY: 12:00PM – 2AM
CEO UPDATE: as of 12th May
I hope you and your family are keeping safe and well at this time, wherever they may be, whether here in lockdown in New Zealand or elsewhere across the globe.
It’s great to be able to make contact with you on a positive note, and I speak on behalf of the whole Christchurch Casino team when I say you have been in our thoughts throughout lockdown, and we cannot wait to welcome you back to Christchurch Casino.
On Monday 11 May 2020, it was announced that New Zealand will be moving from Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 2 at 2359 (11.59pm) on Wednesday 13 May 2020, following the announcement Christchurch Casino will reopen at 1300 (1pm) on Thursday 14 May 2020.
If you’re sick, please don’t come to Christchurch Casino
If you are feeling sick, please, DO NOT come to Christchurch Casino. Please stay at home in your bubble and seek medical advice. Take care of yourself and only come to the Casino when you have fully recovered. By doing so, you will be keeping yourself and others safe and help limit the spread of Covid-19 so our business and many others can remain open.
Over the weeks of closure we have had to make some painful but necessary decisions. The results of these are reflective of our new operational environment. As we navigate our way through Level 2 and the social distancing restrictions these impose, we are also moving in to winter which is quieter time for us, therefore our hours of operation will be;
- Monday 13.00pm – 23.00pm (1pm – 11pm)
- Tuesday 13.00pm – 23.00pm (1pm – 11pm)
- Wednesday 13.00pm – 23.00pm (1pm – 11pm)
- Thursday 13.00pm – 23.00pm (1pm – 11pm)
- Friday 13.00pm – 2.00am (1pm – 2am)
- Saturday 1200pm – 0200am (12pm – 2am)
- Sunday 1200pm – 23.00pm (12pm – 11pm)
The way I look at it so that I remember, is that we open at 1300 (1pm) weekdays and 1200 on weekends. A slightly later lunch during the week, then roll into the weekend and we open at midday for a longer lunch to set you up for the rugby in Monza.
It comes with much regret that due to the impact of Covid-19 and possible health implications of a buffet we have closed the Grand Café for the foreseeable future. After 25 years with the odd speed bump on the way this bump was just one too many. To the great team that made the Grand Café what it was, thank you. To you, our loyal diners thank you for your patronage and for being part of the Casino story. Chi has also had to close for the same reasons. Our food offerings will all be provided out of Monza and the Valley bar. A menu has been designed for these outlets and you will see some delicious options on this, including some crowd favourites from Chi. Have a sneak peek at these.
There is no counter service in Monza or Valley bar, please take a seat and one of our team will come and take your order.
Access to the Casino/ Car Parking
No Vehicle access to the Casino from Victoria Street
The Victoria Street scape project has commenced, which means that Victoria Street between Kilmore and Peterborough streets is closed both ways. The ability to pull up outside Casino entrance isn’t available at the moment. This also means the parking under the Casino main building is closed.
Peterborough Street Carpark
Due to the ongoing work on the Victoria Street project, you can only access the Peterborough Street Carpark entrance from the Durham street side of the city or from Salisbury Street. This carpark will be free for members.
To enter the Casino everyone will need to be a member, if not a member anyone can sign up as they arrive, just need photo ID. You will notice a lot of our Gaming machines turned off, this is to ensure we meet the Social distance requirements of 1m gaps. There are also restrictions for those who sit at Table games to play.
You will also notice that we have established zones. Each area will have a maximum occupancy which our teams will monitor. Available seats in each zone will match the occupancy maximum.
Extra cleaning regimes have been implemented. We have stepped up the frequency of cleaning to ensure high touch surfaces are sanitised. We’ll have alcohol based sanitiser available if you wish to sanitise your gaming space for further peace of mind.
Please sanitise or wash your hands regularly. We have multiple hand sanitiser stations throughout the Casino. Please take advantage and use them to keep you safe when you’re visiting us.
You will notice our teams wiping their hands more often along with tables sanitised after each group of diners have left.
Remember to ‘Be kind’ to Casino employees and fellow Casino patrons and please enjoy yourself while here.
We are excited and we look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy the facilities, experiences and outstanding customer service you have come to know when visiting Christchurch Casino.
We thank you for your ongoing understanding and please keep safe.
